More fun in the sun!

It was another beautiful morning (although the forecasters are now saying that they got it wrong when they said the hot weather would last until Saturday).  After deciding not to take the camera every morning ....... how could I leave it at home when there are still so many things to take photos of!  After taking lots of photos of the flowers in the verges earlier in the week, today I concentrated on the different grasses

 

 

 

 

 

 

As I came back down the hill, there was a ewe peering through the fence, as if she was keeping an eye out for me!

 

 

In the front garden, this iris is about to flower ....... but it should have flowered months ago!

 

 

Last week I gave my orchids a good talking to, as they have been sitting on the kitchen windowsill, eating me out of house and home, without a flower to show for it (oh, ok, they only get a litle water every now and then)  Thye were told in no uncertain terms that if they didn't pull up their socks and do their job, they were heading for the compost heap.  Well, it worked, and two of them had new flower shoots this morning!

 

 

 

I have finished knitting the cushion cover (although I haven't made it up yet)

 

 

I had enough yarn left to do another one, although I have had to change it slightly, and swap the blue and white yarns in the second one

 

 

Of course Friday means patch'n'chat ....... and that means cake!  This week it was our favourite apple and sultana

 

 

Just in case you haven't had enough of cute animals this week, I'll finish with this beautiful calf - it wandered over to see what this strange woman was doing, stopping in the middle of the road and sticking a camera out of the car window!!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, love, Anne

  

 

Would you like to join me .......

........ on my morning walk?  You have to be up early, unlike these horses in the field across the road, who were enjoying the sunshine (we haven't had much recently!)

 

 

However, the sheep in the next field were up and about

 

 

No matter how many times I walk this route, I never tire of the view ....... on the right are the Minto Hills and on the left the Eildons (this view only shows one of the two Mintos, and two of the three Eildons!)

 

 

I walk for a mile and a half, then turn for home - and am faced with a long walk uphill

 

 

and more uphill

 

 

and yet more uphill

 

 

But once round the bend, the rest of the way home is downhill

 

 

As I get to the last field, the sheep and lambs start up a ferocious racket!  I discovered that it is because they are hoping I have their breakfast - sadly not, that's supplied by the farmer some time after I go past.  But the ewes and lambs run across the field every morning as soon as I appear.  Here are some of them watching to see if I am going to stop

 

 

While these ones ran down to the gate (I feel like the Pied Piper!)

 

 

But while I'm striding out, I do notice lots of things to take photos of.  In a few weeks these little buds will be raspberries

This plant looks like something from a sci-fi film!

 

 

Back home, another poppy has flowered - at least this one won't be battered by the wind and rain!

 

 

When these little clumps of toadstools come up in the grass, I always imagine that they contain a town of tiny pixies or elves!

Finally, thanks to everyone who identified my little creature for me - I was almost right ...... it's not a hummingbird, but a hummingbird moth.

Culture!

I wouldn't want you to think that all we did on holiday was lie beside the pool, eat lots of delicious food, and drink wine ........ we also indulged in a spot of culture!

We went to Alcudia to see the Roman ruins ...... Malcolm, as ever, provides the scale!

 

 

It's amazing to think that the original buildings were constructed over two thousand years ago

 

 

But perhaps this grafitti isn't quite so old!

 

 

We walked on round to the amphitheatre - you would have had to take a cushion to sit on, on the rough stone seats!

 

 

Having seen lots of films involving gladiators - I could imagine them waiting behind the bars to go into the arena to fight .......

 

 

..... if only these walls could talk, and tell us if it was really the way that it is portrayed in films

 

 

On our last day, we had plenty of time to get to the airport, so instead of driving straight down the motorway to Palma, we took the mountain road, stopping at Lluc.  While everyone else was taking photos of the magnificent architecture ......

 

 

...... I was distracted by what was going on in plants in the bottom left hand corner.  At first I thought it was very large bees, but as I got closer, I decided it was actually tiny hummingbirds flitting from flower to flower.  After many, many attempts, I managed to take two photos, neither of which is very clear, but I hope you can see the tiny hummingbird (if you click on the photos they should enlarge)

 

 

 

Malcolm eventually dragged me away (but not before I had been joined by another woman, who had wandered over to see what had caught my eye, and immediately got her camera out!).  We then went in to the museum, where amongst all the glorious treasures, was a textile exhibition!

 

 

 

 

It was only when I was sorting out the photos that I realised that I hadn't taken any of the textiles, just the machines!

The weather still isn't very good here - although better weather is forecast for the rest of the week.  But to cheer us up while we wait for 'flaming June', here is beautiful Majorcan blue sky over the villa.
