We know this is a picture of the moon (taken in my back garden on Tuesday night), but just imagine when man (and of course woman) first walked the earth ....
There are two people sitting huddled round a fire one dark night, when the clouds part and they see the full moon. The first one says 'Oh, look at that HOLE in the sky. It must lead to another world. The white light is so beautiful that it must be a world filled with hope and happiness, peace and love.! The other one says 'I agree with you that it is a HOLE in the sky leading to another world, but can't you see that the white light is the smoke of many fires, burning all who enter there. It must be a world of punishment and destruction, misery and despair'.
Did they see the worlds that today we know as heaven and hell?

This week's word is TRANSPORTATION, which was chosen by Leenie (I'm sorry I can't put the link in just now, as I am having another attack of the gremlins - hopefully I'll get it sorted by tomorrow!!) However, I can show you my interpretation of transportation
Hope you all have a super weekend! We have been away for two days 'south of the Border' - I have lots of photos to show you tomorrow.

This week's word was chosen by ..... me!! After a bit of thought, I chose BROWSE, and here is my interpretation
I can browse through my books for something to read
I can browse through the cookery books for a recipe for dinner
browse for a new project
But now to do all these things, I don't even have to leave my armchair, as I can browse on line for books, recipes and patterns - which of course is what we think of now when we use the word browse

I had a busy afternoon in the kitchen, cooking spicy lamb and sweet potato - some of which we had for dinner (with courgette fritters), the rest to go in the freezer. I also cooked a huge pot of beef curry, again to go in the freezer. But before that, I decided to have a go at making scones! It's a long time since my last attempt - the results of which could have been used to make a rockery!! But having made all that jelly (after the first batch of quince and apple, I then made apple and rosehip) I thought scones would be just the thing to go with the jelly. Of course I turned to my favourite ancient old Delia book, (although she let me down for the jelly, I had to turn to Prue Leith!) and got organised
Now, I'd love to be like the Pioneer Woman and show you dozens of photos of every last little thing involved in making the scones - but it would have been far too much effort to keep washing my hands!! So we'll skip the sifting the flour, rubbing in the butter, adding the sugar and salt, then adding the milk to make a soft dough, rolling it out and cutting out the scones .... so, here they are ready to go in the oven
and here they are twelve minutes later!
not perfect, but not too bad!! Next time I think I wouldn't roll the dough out so much and would use a bigger cutter, but of course the main thing is how they tasted! So for afternoon tea, we not only had scones, but we had some of the apple and rosehip jelly - lovely!!

This week's word is HISTORY, chosen by the lovely Anairam. I gave this quite a lot of thought and eventually had this idea .....
..... would HISTORY be different if women were in charge of the world? When men are in charge it goes something like this ..... we don't like that country and the way they do things, let's start a war with them and make them do things the way we do them (all in the name of 'democracy'). But perhaps if women were in charge it would go like this ... we don't really agree with the way that country does things, so why don't we invite the leaders round and we can have a cuppa and talk about our likes and dislikes and try to find some common ground and create a world where we can live in peace with each other. Yes, that is a very simplistic way of looking at things, but I think there is a grain of truth in it, so I hope you like my journal page which was inspired by HISTORY

When I was 12 or 13, I went on a camping trip with the Girl Guides. But not a great organised trip with lots of fellow Guides - this was just two Leaders and three Guides, camping in a field. It was the last weekend in September - and it rained almost all of the time (that's because it was the local 'holiday weekend' - guaranteed to make it rain!!). Nevertheless, we had a good time. I learned how to lash sticks together to make all sorts of useful things, how to lift a sod of grass using only a knife, make a fire in the hole, then replace the sod later and, most importantly, how to use the tentpeg mallet to bash flat the lumps under the groundsheet that made for an umcomfortable bed. Not quite so nice was having to use a latrine - a trench in the field which you had to stand astride, then throw a spadeful of earth in when you had finished - although there was a canvas sheet round it for privacy (but no roof, so it was a soggy affair). But the worst thing for me was the supper on the Friday night when we arrived. I'm not a particularly fussy eater (in recent years I have eaten crocodile, alligator, kangaroo, emu and shark!!) but there are two things I really, really don't like - Heinz Cream of Tomato soup and Heinz Spaghetti. Supper wasn't just both of these - it was both of them stirred together in one saucepan - who thought of that as a delicious meal? I went to bed hungry .....
ps - my drawing skills haven't suddenly improved - I had a little help

This week's word is DETOUR. At the start of the week I had a few vague ideas, but then yesterday I saw contrails crossing in the sky and a story started to form in my head, then when I got home, Harry Chapin's Cat's in the Cradle was playing on the radio, and the story was complete ...
I pictured a plane full of stressed business men, all busy working on their laptops, writing reports, scheduling meetings, doing all those things that business men do when travelling, and like the Dad in Harry's song, never having time to spend with their children. That's the first contrail. Then the business men rise up as one and say 'enough, there are more important things in life than the constant pursuit of money. Pilot, we want to make a DETOUR to go home to see our families' And that's the second contrail .....

Today's word is WANDERLUST, which is a perfect word for me, as I love to travel, and have been very, very fortunate over the last few years to visit lots of lovely places. I was going to look at photos of my travels, but then I remembered I have a collection of postcards (one day I am going to put them in an album!!) So here, in no particular order, are some of the places I have visited
beautiful watercolours from Indonesia
you can tell from the top card when we went to Western Australia!
I love silly cards like these
the Petronas Towers
wonderful views of Singapore
the Lone Star State
the amazing South of France
Scheveningin in The Netherlands
I want to go back to Santa Monica!!
another trip to Houston!
a strange postcard? the next photo explains!
(yes, I did use the facilities!)
I not only brought home the card, I also have two of the beautiful wine glasses!!
saving the best for last ..... I am so excited, because at the end of the month, we are going to Sydney and Singapore - courtesy of some of the vast amount of airmiles (frequent flier miles) that Malcolm accumulated through flying here, there and everywhere for his job!!
So yes, I definitely have the wanderlust bug! To see other interpretations of the word, have a look here.
Have a super weekend - the sun is still shining here - hopefully it will shine all weekend so that our neighbour can get his hay baled! Love, Anne

Just over four years ago, Malcolm had to go to Texas on business. As it was just before Easter, he added on a few days holiday and I went with him ....
This is me (I still have that skirt!) sitting on a wall across the road from ....
..... The Alamo, in San Antonio - we were amazed to find it is in the centre of town, as of course we have seen the film countless times!
During the trip, I had the first niggles of what I thought was toothache. Now, four years on, I have had countless trips to dentists/doctors/hospital consultants/acupuncturist/hypnotherapist ..... and despite all of this - and all sorts of medication, it has got steadily worse. Having just had a third diagnosis a couple of weeks ago, I have now given it my own highly dental/medical name - 'The Face Ache' ...... which brings me to this week's word 'reinvent' .....
..... thanks to Malcolm for drawing my nose - my efforts made me look like Miss Piggy! Have a good weekend, love, Anne
